Infrequently Asked Questions: Where can I find a list of public sector consultants?
A: Use the Management Consultancies Association’s Careers with Members search page. Under ‘Industry Sectors’ you will find central government, local government, NHS and other public bodies. You can also search by size of consultancy or whether they recruit recent graduates, offer internships or have current vacancies. You could also look at the Institute of Business Consulting’s member list. You cannot search by specialism, but many of them do work with public sector agencies, so it’s worth checking

I want to be a ... Government Lawyer
Why?
The government legal service will appeal to those interested in the blend of politics and law; who want to be at the heart of the legislative process. It provides an alternative legal career for those who don’t want to work in the city and are public spirited and helpful with a broad outlook. Government lawyers tend to have a varied career path open to them using their transferable legal skills within different departments rather than specialising for life. The pay tends to be lower than for corporate law but this is balanced by regular working hours, the possibility of flexible working and other benefits associated with working for the government
How?
You apply to the Government Legal Service as you would any other legal firm; at the end of your second year of a Law degree or just before you start your conversion course.
GLS were present at LawFair on 11th November as were the CPS. Hope you were able to chat with them on the day!
Where?
Similar public sector law careers can be found in the Crown Prosecution Service and local government. Also check out CDEC’s general law links page here
