Bloomberg Women in Finance Event

Bloomberg Perspectives on 9 June 2010 is an insight day designed specifically for students who want to find out more about the experiences of women building careers in finance. Taking place at 12pm at Finsbury Square, London the event gives students the chance to meet people working for Bloomberg, discover how the assessment process works, and find out about the Analytics and Financial Sales graduate Programme.

Careers and Employability Centre Opening Times

The Careers and Employability Centre will open later than usual on Wednesday 26 May 2010 as we are having a staff development morning. We'll open at 12.30pm and have late opening until 7pm. Careers advisers will be available for short appointments from 1pm onwards.

Study in Japan or the USA


If you want to study in the USA or Japan in 2011 there are some deadlines approaching for awards and bursaries.

Fulbright Postgraduate Student Awards are for UK citizens looking to undertake postgraduate or doctoral study in a US university. Deadline is 31 May 2010, more info can be found here.

The deadline for Japanese Government (MEXT) Postgraduate Scholarships is 9 June 2010. These are for up to 24 months' study in Japan and no prior knowledge of the Japanese language is necessary. Apply via the Embassy of Japan.

Available for short term study in Japan is the JSPS Award for pre and post doctoral researchers. For fellowships to start between November 2010 and March 2011 the deadline is 1 June 2010 and more details can be found here.

Windsor Fellowships

The deadline for two Wales based Windsor Fellowship programmes is coming up on 28 May 2010. The Leadership Programme for Wales and WF & Dyfed-Powys Police programme are both professional and personal development programmes for Black and Asian minority ethnic undergraduates. We've been informed by the School of Education that there are still some places left on the Maths, Science and Modern Foreign Languages PGCEs at Sussex. Apply now via the GTTR website or come along to one of the teacher recruitment events. The first is on Saturday 22 May 2010 10-12am in the Russell Building on campus, and there's another on Wednesday 26 May 2010 at Jury's Inn, Brighton 6-8pm.

City Law for Ethnic Minorities


TARGETchances is running a City Law event next month for ethnic minority students. GraduateON Programme

In conjunction with Chichester College, the University of Chichester is offering free motivational courses plus the chance of placements to graduates across the country. The courses are held in Chichester and are designed to enhance your employability. The next course dates are 24 - 26 May, 23 - 25 June and 13 - 15 July 2010 all from 9am to 5pm. Journalism Taster Days


Brighton Journalist Works is running a taster day on Saturday 19 June 2010.

You will have an introductory lesson on news writing to give you an insight into what it’s like to be a journalist, get to write your own real news story and get individual feedback. The University of Brighton Internship Programme

Are you a 2009 (or earlier) graduate not yet working at a graduate level in your chosen field?

The University of Brighton Internship Programme offers a great opportunity to gain valuable graduate level experience to help you get that job!

The Internships are paid and cover a broad range of areas for a total placement of 222 hours (equivalent of 6 weeks' full time). An Employability Skills workshop is also offered as part of the Programme.

Graduate Fairs Coming Up


There are two graduate fairs coming up next month in London that are well worth attending, especially for final year students and recent graduates.


First up is the Summer Graduate Fair at Earls Court 9-10 June 2010. This fair includes industry insights, career workshops and a gap year zone alongside dozens of employers looking to recruit. More information and advance booking can be found online.
Later in June comes the London Graduate Fair at the Business Design Centre 23-24 June 2010. Run by The Guardian and The Careers Group the fair includes CV and careers advice as well as 1000s of job vacancies. You can find out more from their website.
Both fairs are free to attend. Remember that you'll get more out of it if you prepare in advance. Come into the Careers and Employability Centre if you need any advice on how to make the most of grad fairs.
