IAESTE Summer Placements
The deadline to register and apply for IAESTE placements is 10 December 2009. The placements are paid, overseas summer work experience for Science and Engineering Students organised by the British Council. They're looking for highly motivated undergraduates, normally resident in the UK and in their 2nd year and above. More information and application forms can be found online.

Speech and Language Therapy Open Day
East Sussex Downs & Weald NHS Primary Care Trust Speech and Language Therapy Department are running an open evening on Tuesday 8th December 2009 6pm - 7.30pm. The evening will include a presentation on the different career paths within speech and language therapy and related courses. Interested students will also be invited to spend an observation session with one of the therapists. The event takes place Sturton Place, Station Road, Hailsham, BN27 2AU. Rough Guides Competition
Imagine being paid to travel in South or Central America; experience ultimate adventures, sample local food, view jaw-dropping sights and then write all about it. Sound like your dream job? Rough Guides and STA Travel are running a competition giving two students the chance of a lifetime to become a Rough Guides travel writer.
To enter write, in no more than 500 words, about a place you know well. It can be any location but all entries should have an ‘on a budget’ theme. The deadline is 31 January 2010, terms and conditions and entry criteria can be found here.

Sussex Internship Programme
Applications opened this week for for internships taking place between March and May 2010 in the Sussex Internship Programme. It provides over 100 30-day grant-supported internships for recent graduates at a wide variety of games, web, software development, animation, TV, e-learning, music, film and advertising companies.
The deadline for applications is Friday 15 January 2010. It is well worth taking part as several recent participants have been offered full time jobs following their internship. More information can be found here.

Winter Vacation Opening Times
During the 2009 - 2010 winter vacation the Careers and Employability Centre will be closed on the University's closure dates and offering reduced opening hours and short appointments during the rest of vacation.
We return to our regular hours and appointments schedule on Monday 11 January 2010.

Compass Jobs Fair
The Compass Jobs Fair is a specialist event for anyone who wants to work in social work and social care. It takes place tomorrow, 3 December 2009 at The Royal Horticultural Halls in London. The event includes master classes on interviews and searching for your first job and is an opportunity to speak to a variety of employers from Local Authorities, voluntary organisations, and agencies. Students on a social work course can claim a £5 travel bursary and a £5 lunch bursary. For more information see the Compass website.
