ACB (Actual Customer Behaviour) is a unique customer behavioural research consultancy based in the Sussex Innovation Centre on the University of Sussex Campus. They combine the latest techniques in digital and video ethnography with advanced psychological behavioural research to analyse customer behaviours in a natural context.

Wired Sussex Internships Go Live March 1st!

The applications for the next 40 internships for the Sussex Internship Programme go live on Monday 1st march 2010. We have internships across Sussex within the content, creative and media industry sectors.

The internship programme has been a great success in helping graduates get their foot on the 1st rung of the ladder with over 65% of the interns from the 1st round being made a job offer.

Diversity Week 15 - 19 February 2010

15 - 19 February 2010 is Diversity Week at the University of Sussex and there are lots of interesting events, discussions and workshops celebrating diversity and promoting equalities.

As part of the festivities the Careers and Employability Centre is hosting two events: a CV workshop for mature students on Tuesday and career planning for international students on Thursday. Both of these sessions can be booked via our events listing. We will also be blogging here throughout the week on diversity issues in careers, employment and job-seeking. This will include methods of disclosure, tips on researching LGBT friendly employers and resources for women in science, engineering and technology.

Sussex Postgraduate Open Day

Sussex's 2010 Postgraduate Open Day will take place on Wednesday 27 January 2010, 11.30am - 2.00pm in Bramber House on the University campus . The Open Day provides an ideal opportunity to find out more about postgraduate study at Sussex including advice on how a postgraduate degree can improve your career prospects. Information on the day's activities and events and a booking form can be found on the website.

If you wish to apply for postgradate study you are welcome to bring your personal statement in to the Careers and Employability Centre and one of our advisers will review it and give you feedback. Speech and Language Therapy Open Day

East Sussex Downs & Weald NHS Primary Care Trust Speech and Language Therapy Department are running an open evening on Tuesday 8th December 2009 6pm - 7.30pm. The evening will include a presentation on the different career paths within speech and language therapy and related courses. Interested students will also be invited to spend an observation session with one of the therapists. The event takes place Sturton Place, Station Road, Hailsham, BN27 2AU. Sussex Internship Programme

Applications opened this week for for internships taking place between March and May 2010 in the Sussex Internship Programme. It provides over 100 30-day grant-supported internships for recent graduates at a wide variety of games, web, software development, animation, TV, e-learning, music, film and advertising companies.

The deadline for applications is Friday 15 January 2010. It is well worth taking part as several recent participants have been offered full time jobs following their internship. More information can be found here.

Teaching Taster Course

The School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex is running a taster course for students interested in going on to study a PGCE. The course includes spending three to five days at a local Secondary School gaining valuable experience with teachers and pupils and begins on Monday 23rd November 2009 with an introduction to the profession and the secondary school curriculum. Applicants need to be interested in teaching Maths, Science, RE, Music, Design and Technology, ICT or Modern Foreign Languages in Secondary Schools and should be eligible to apply for teacher training within one year of attending the course. Upcoming Careers Fairs

Although the highlight of the season's numerous careers fairs will undoubtedly be our own GradFair on Wednesday 4th November 2009 there are many others that may be worth attending. These fairs all have graduate employers, careers advice and presentations.   • The Guardian London Graduate Fair from The Careers Group takes place at the Business Design Centre, Islington, N1 on Tuesday 20th October 2009 from 12pm to 6pm. The fair is free to attend and a full exhibitor list and registration can be found here.
  • The Autumn Graduate Fair, supported by The Independent takes place at the Royal Horticultural Halls, Westminster on Wednesday 28th October 2009 from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Entry is free and further information can be found here.
  • The Diversity Careers Show 2009, takes place on Friday 20th November 2009, 11.00am to 5.30pm Grand Connaught Rooms, London. It is brought to you by LGBT publishers Square Peg Media in association with Stonewall and is open to LGBT students, graduates and their friends. More information and registration can be found here.

Graduate opportunities in Japan - for returning Japanese students

BEO - a unique careers service in Japan will be delivering a video conference presentation to University of Sussex which will explore graduate recruitment, skills looked for and the labour market in Japan. GraduateOn is a support package for graduates looking to live or work in West Sussex running until September 2010. The programme consists of a two day intensive careers coaching course plus appropriate placements (both paid and un-paid) together with ongoing careers support.
