Recent productions include the multi-award winning In Search of Mozart, and The Boy who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan, as well as the Tim Marlow art shows produced for Sky Arts.

Channel 4 - Journalism Trainee Scheme Bursary

Channel 4 in conjunction with City University London are offering a great opportunity for budding journalists.

They are looking for enthusiastic graduates with a passion for news and current affairs... They're also looking to better reflect Britain’s multi-cultural society, so are particularly encouraging people with knowledge of the Pakistani, Bangladeshi or African-Caribbean communities to apply.

BBC EXTEND SCHEME NOW OPEN FOR APPLICANTS!

Exclusively for disabled people, the BBC run a specialised work placement scheme - BBC Extend.
Extend is a BBC-wide placement scheme which offers appropriately experienced and/or qualified disabled people a great opportunity to gain six months paid work within the BBC. Although there is no guarantee of a full-time job at the end of the 6 month placement last year 67% of the Extendees gained further work at the BBC!

BBC Online Careers Fair

The first BBC Virtual Careers Fair is taking place on Wednesday 29 July 2009 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. It's an opportunity to find out more about current vacancies and the wide range of career paths available at the BBC.

The Guardian have launched this years Student Media Awards. Categories include student reporter of the year, feature writer of the year and critic of the year. More information, including details of how to enter, can be found here. Closing date is Friday 3rd July 2009.

Free TV Summer Course

The Network is a scheme offering a comprehensive introduction to careers in TV through masterclasses, workshops and talks. It takes place between 27th and 30th August 2009 and has contributers from BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and five.

With the exception of travel to and from Edinburgh everything else is free including accommodation and food. Applications can be made online and the closing date for entries is 17th April 2009

I want to work in.... Music PR

Why?
You feel at home in pubs, clubs and gigs and find it easy to chat to strangers. You are thrilled by the thought of backstage parties, record launches and awards ceremonies. You yearn for the satisfaction of seeing one of your bands on the cover of the NME and knowing it was down to you

How?
Qualifications are less important than aspects of personality in PR. You’ll need to be diplomatic and thick skinned, able to work late and still get up for work the next day. Starting out in the industry will generally involve the less glamorous aspects of the job like media research and office admin. If you want to get into music PR then it is important to research the area thoroughly - familiarise yourself with the music press and the music sections of the main newspapers, who the journalists are and what music tastes and focuses they have. If applying to a PR company check which acts they look after, listen to them and develop opinions on them, do they have a USP?

Where?

Wired Sussex are running a one day conference for women in media on Friday 24th October 2008. This year's focus is on digital media, with brilliant speakers from games, TV, music and the web.
