IPA Summer School


The IPA Summer School offers undergraduates the opporunity to work in top advertising agencies. Aimed at second year students (although other years are not excluded) the school runs from 5 July-10 September 2010 in central London. Entry is via a creative writing competition that can be found on the IPA website. The deadline for entries is 7 May 2010.

Feedback Fortnight Survey

This year as part of our quality initiative we are seeking input from you about how you access Careers and Employability Centre services. Whether you use us or not we want to hear what you think. Your comments are important to help us improve the service we offer.

Undergraduate of the Year Awards

TARGETjobs is launching a national Awards competition to identify outstanding undergraduates from a range of degree subjects across the UK's top universities. There are eight awards up for grabs including ones to identify the top undergraduates in Law, Business, Engineering, IT/Computer Science, and Economics, plus a special ‘First Year’ Award open to all undergraduates who have just started their second year.

Win a luxury skiing holiday with graduate jobs survey

Market research and consultancy firm 2i Research wants to learn about graduates’ real life experiences of their jobs to help future generations of students make career decisions and advise employers on understanding their staff’s needs. All graduates who fully complete the online survey will be entered into a prize draw for a luxury break for two people in Val d'Isère. The survey takes five minutes and is open to anyone who graduated between 2006 and 2009. Complete it here.

Graduate Barometer 2010: have your say and land a job in Berlin

The Graduate Barometer 2010 is a large-scale, independent piece of research into students’ views on graduate careers and recruitment, looking at what you think makes a graduate job attractive. Your views on graduate employers will also help decide the winners of the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2010. Have your say and take part in a prize draw to win cash prizes or a paid 6-month contract in Berlin at the careers research company Trendence. The survey is open until 31 December 2009 here, the prize-draw winners will be announced in March 2010.

Rough Guides Competition

Imagine being paid to travel in South or Central America; experience ultimate adventures, sample local food, view jaw-dropping sights and then write all about it. Sound like your dream job? Rough Guides and STA Travel are running a competition giving two students the chance of a lifetime to become a Rough Guides travel writer.

To enter write, in no more than 500 words, about a place you know well. It can be any location but all entries should have an ‘on a budget’ theme. The deadline is 31 January 2010, terms and conditions and entry criteria can be found here.

Deloitte Business Competition

We first posted about this three weeks ago but it seems that the deadline was incorrect.

Deloitte, the business advisory firm, is urging Sussex university students to engage with the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in a nationwide competition. The Deloitte Business Competition will help you understand the business challenges of the 2012 Games and to put forward you own ideas on how to solve them.

Students who enter, setting out their ideas in 2,012 words, are competing for the prize of a trip to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and two weeks of paid work experience in the London 2012 sponsorship team at Deloitte. The judges will be looking for creative, entrepreneurial and constructive ideas that can genuinely influence the delivery of the Games.

The Deloitte Business Competition opened on Monday 5 October to all undergraduates and postgraduates at UK universities and is accessible to all degree disciplines. It will close to entries 4 January 2010 at 12:00pm. For more information, visit www.deloitte.co.uk/businesscompetition.

npower Energy Challenge

BNP Paribas Ace Manager Challenge

BNP Paribas have launched their Ace Manager business game which is designed for students from all fields of study. Registration is open now until the game begins on 17 February 2010 and is an opportunity to put knowledge into practice and to compete on an international level . The top 5 teams will participate in the finals at the BNP Paribas headquarters in Paris competing for €9000 and for tickets to tennis games. More information and registration can be found here.

Ultimate Adventure Blog Competition

i-to-i lifechanging travel are running a competition to win trips to Tanzania, Costa Rica or Thailand , plus flights and a rucksack full of goodies from Nomad travel worth over £200. The Ultimate Blog for the Ultimate Adventure involves students signing up to Campfire, a social network for those interested in travelling. All you need to do is write a blog detailing what you'd do on your ultimate trip, if money and time were not an issue, and the other travellers on Campfire vote for the winner. Rate Your Postgrad Course and Win a Dell Netbook

Target Courses are running a weekly prize draw to win some great prizes. This week, it's a Dell netbook computer worth over £200. If you are studying or have completed a postgraduate course in the UK, complete the survey to tell them what you think of your course and university.

Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Shell have opened the competition for their LiveWIRE Young entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award offers budding entrepreneurs aged 16-30 the opportunity to stand out from the crowd and receive a cash injection of £10,000. To qualify for entry, applicants must be aged 16-30 and have been trading not less than three months and not more than 18 months on 11th September 2009. To find out more or to enter go here. APG Young Talent Award

Account Planning Group are asking students to design, from scratch, an original brand that will appeal to people of their age group. The judges will be experts from the leading advertising agencies, and a venture capitalist looking to invest in the best new ideas. The authors of the ten shortlisted papers will be invited to the prestigious APG Awards in London in October where trophies will be awarded. All short-listed papers will also be published in Campaign, the advertising sector's leading trade magazine. Entries should be 1,000 words maximum. Closing date is 26th June 2009. Details here.

IPA Creative Summer School Competition

If you want to be an advertising copywriter, check out the IPA Copy Test website (click on 'new user?' for details). You will have to answer 6 randomly generated questions in an hour.

Then you can choose to submit your entry into the IPA Creative Summer School competition, with the opportunity to win a placement, either as a copywriter or as part of a creative team, over the summer. Or you can choose to submit your entry to a Copy Showcase, where it will be stored for one year. IPA members will then be able to access and consider your entry should any creative writing opportunities come up at member organisations and agencies.

The placement will run for 5 weeks (6th July-10th September). The deadline for entry is 12th June and the competition is open to second and third years and recent graduates. Students will receive £500 on completion of the placement.

CIMA Global Business Challenge

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants are running a Global Business Challenge giving students a chance to represent the UK at the final in Singapore. The competition is open to undergraduates and will consist of analysing, reporting and presenting on a CIMA case study. More information can be found online or at their event in the Economics department at Sussex on 28th April 2009.

Guardian Student Media Awards

The Guardian have launched this years Student Media Awards. Categories include student reporter of the year, feature writer of the year and critic of the year. More information, including details of how to enter, can be found here. Closing date is Friday 3rd July 2009.

IPA Summer School

IPA is running an annual competition to win a place at Summer School where successful students are given the opportunity to spend a summer in a leading direct marketing, digital or healthcare advertising agency. The competition comprises a survey and a short piece of creative writing and the deadline is 8th May 2009. More information and entry forms can be found here

Codeo Competition

Codeo is a coding competition for students in the Sussex area with a cash prize of £100 awarded to the winning individual or group entry.
