The Museum of Modern Art offers several types of internships, from 12-week fall, summer and spring to 12 month internships. Some of the longer ones are paid, as is a specialist publishing internship in the spring.

Futurising Event for Creative Graduates

Futurising, the two day festival of opportunity for the creative industry takes place on 29 and 30 June 2010 at the Nicholls & Clarke Building in Shoreditch. The event includes talks, one-to-one sessions, recruitment and networking opportunities and competitions offering incredible opportunities for attendees.

Entry is free for those who have registered in advance but an admission fee is needed for some of the talks. A full list of speakers and further information can be found on the Futurising website and updates through their twitter feed.

City Reads Volunteering

Volunteers are being sought for this year's City Reads project. There will be an informal meeting Tuesday 16 February 2010 5.30pm – 6.45pm at the Jubilee Library Learning Centre where you can find out which book has been chosen and how to take part.

Creative Industry Workshop

Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce is running a creative industry workshop on Wednesday 7th October 2009, 6.30pm - 9.00pm at The Basement, Kensington Street, Brighton. Panellists are Liz Whitehead, Co-founder and Co-director of Fabrica Gallery, Lesley Thomson, author, Jake Shillingford, Singer & Songwriter, and Glen Poole, communications director of Neo. Paula Murray, Head of Culture & Economy, Brighton & Hove City Council will give a short talk and closing comments. This event will be especially useful for students looking to start their own creative enterprises. Places are free but limited in number so please book in advance online.

Careers In Arts Administration

The Careers Group are running an event on Tuesday 9th June 2009 for students interested in getting into Arts Administration. There will be team activities providing insight into what the jobs involve as well as talks from professionals running theatres, music venues and arts centres. ThreeWeeks Brighton

ThreeWeeks, the Brighton Festival newspaper is recruiting a review team of students. Following a special journalism training day on 26th April 2009, they will then get to review shows at the festival in May, all the tickets will be arranged by ThreeWeeks. Participating students get personal feedback, the chance to see their work edited for publication, and to see their reviews published by one of the most respected media at the Brighton Festival. New Art Theory 2009 - critical writing competition

Submissions are now being sought for New Art Theory 2009. New Art Theory is a yearly competition to recognise the best emerging new writing talent in the visual arts.

It is open to all final year undergraduates, current postgraduates and recent graduates of no more than 3 years from of any BA, MA or equivalent international course, provided the submission is on the subject of art. The winner of this selection will receive a £500 grant to aid the pursuit of their work. Further information and submission details can be found here

New Year, New You?

Maybe it's that time of the year when you start thinking about these things. A student came in the other day asking about art courses in Brighton. Short or evening courses while she continues her science degree. My first thought was 'how will you find time to fit that in'? Then, 'why not'? Doing something that interests or inspires you can kickstart your life in lots of different ways. And help motivate you when you get bogged down in your degree.

CCE has some practical arts courses (amongst lots of other things), or there's Brighton University's arthouse, offering saturday and evening classes. Phoenix Brighton and Evolution Arts & Natural Health both offer a variety of courses, too.

Big Issue Theatre Writing Competition

The Big Issue is launching a play writing competition in association with the National Student Drama Festival. The competition is aimed at students and people who have never written for theatre before and the scripts should concern human interest, social affairs and politics. The play should be around 10 minutes (around 10 sides of A4). A shortlist will be performed by professional actors at a Big Script Festival Night where the winner will be chosen.
